VILLAGE

VILLAGE is a piece named after the phrase “It takes a village.” I often think yes, but womxn often have to overcome that village, though it has been what shores them up on some fronts . . . it can be what ties one to a place, as well. We make choices . . . to stay in touch, to love, to hold on to memories of family and friends. I love drawing faces and womxn. My family, (and I have a huge extended family) means a lot to me, though over the years, it’s been hard to stay in touch with everyone. I think of the womxn who raised me, especially my mama, but also the extended family and friends. This piece was done quickly, and though I love working in black and white, I really think the colors in this one are just . . . juicy. :)
